How does a beard transplant work?

In a beard transplant, your own hair follicles, usually from the back of the head, are extracted individually and transplanted into the desired beard zones. The transplanted hairs grow permanently like normal beard hair and can be shaved and trimmed. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and takes four to eight hours depending on the extent.

Who is a beard transplant suitable for?

For men with patchy beard growth, uneven density, scars in the beard area or the wish for a sharper contour. Beard zones can also be reconstructed after burns or surgery. What matters is a healthy donor area. We assess this in the free analysis based on your photos or in person in Frankfurt.

Will the result look natural?

Naturalness depends almost entirely on the angle of placement: beard hairs grow much flatter than scalp hairs, and the direction changes from zone to zone. Our doctors place each graft individually at the angle typical of beard hair, which is why we prefer to work with the DHI technique on the face. Once healed, it is no longer possible to tell which hairs were transplanted.

What do I need to bear in mind after the procedure?

For the first week: no shaving, no rubbing, avoid the sun. Small crusts fall off after five to seven days. After two to four weeks the transplanted hairs initially shed. Permanent growth begins from the third month. You will see the final result after nine to twelve months.

How your treatment works

  1. 01

    Beard design & analysis

Joint planning of density, contour and transitions, tailored to your face shape and existing beard growth.

  2. 02

    Extraction of fine grafts

For the beard, fine, mostly single follicles are selected so the result looks soft and natural.

  3. 03

Implantation in the direction of growth

Each graft is placed at the flat angle typical of beard hair. The direction of growth follows your natural beard pattern.

  4. 04

    Healing & care

After about a week the crusts have healed; from the third month the new beard grows in permanently.

Frequently asked questions about hair transplants

Where does the hair for a beard transplant come from?
Usually from the back of the head, as this hair grows permanently. Its structure adapts well visually in the beard area; for a soft result, fine, mostly single follicles are preferred.
When can I exercise again after a hair transplant?
Light exercise is possible after about a week. You should avoid strenuous sport, weight training, sauna and swimming pools for four weeks so as not to jeopardise the healing of the grafts.
How soon can I return to work?
Office work is usually possible again after two to three days. Visible crusts heal within seven to ten days; with a loose head covering (once medically approved), many patients are back to everyday life even sooner.
When and how may I wash my hair after the procedure?
The first wash takes place on the second or third day, following precise instructions, with a special foam and without pressure. You receive your care set and step-by-step instructions on the day of treatment; if you have any questions, the team can be reached at any time.
