What is a DHI hair transplant?

With the DHI method (Direct Hair Implantation), the extracted hair follicles are placed directly into the scalp in a single step using a special implantation device, the Choi Pen, without opening channels beforehand. This allows particularly precise control over the angle of placement and direction of growth, and is ideal for adding density and for the frontal hairline.

Who is DHI the right choice for?

DHI plays to its strengths when precision matters more than maximum graft numbers: reconstructing the frontal hairline, adding density between existing hairs, and treating patients who do not want to shave their head completely. For large bald areas requiring high graft numbers, we often recommend the FUE sapphire method or a combination of both techniques. Which strategy is right for you is clarified in the free hair analysis.

DHI or FUE sapphire: Which is better?

Neither method is universally “better”. They solve different problems. FUE sapphire allows more grafts in a single session and is more efficient for extensive hair loss. DHI offers finer control over every single hair and works without a full shave. In many cases, our doctors combine both techniques within one treatment: DHI for the hairline, FUE sapphire for the larger area.

How natural will the result look?

Naturalness is decided at three points: hairline planning, the angle of placement and the distribution of density. The Choi Pen gives the doctor maximum control over all three factors: each hair is placed individually in the direction of growth of your existing hair. That is why DHI is our first choice for the most visible zone of your face: the frontal hairline.

Frequently asked questions about hair transplants

Is DHI really possible without shaving?
With the DHI method, only the narrow extraction area at the back of the head needs to be shortened, and it is concealed by the hair above it. The recipient zone remains unshaved. That is why DHI is the preferred method for working professionals and women.
When can I exercise again after a hair transplant?
Light exercise is possible after about a week. You should avoid strenuous sport, weight training, sauna and swimming pools for four weeks so as not to jeopardise the healing of the grafts.
How soon can I return to work?
Office work is usually possible again after two to three days. Visible crusts heal within seven to ten days; with a loose head covering (once medically approved), many patients are back to everyday life even sooner.
When and how may I wash my hair after the procedure?
The first wash takes place on the second or third day, following precise instructions, with a special foam and without pressure. You receive your care set and step-by-step instructions on the day of treatment; if you have any questions, the team can be reached at any time.
