Preparing for Your Hair Transplant: The 14-Day Checklist

What to do and what to avoid in the two weeks before a hair transplant: medication, alcohol, smoking, haircut and the day of the procedure.

Why preparation shapes your result

Good healing starts before the procedure: circulation, clotting and the condition of your scalp on the day depend directly on what you do in the two weeks before. The good news: the list is short and easy to plan.

14 to 7 days before

Discuss any permanent medication with us, especially blood thinners; whether and how to pause them is always decided by the prescribing doctor, never by the patient alone. Cut smoking down as far as you can, because nicotine narrows blood vessels and worsens the supply to the follicles. Skip new hair growth products or scalp experiments; the scalp should be calm and irritation-free on the day.

The final 7 days

No aspirin or other blood-thinning painkillers without checking with us, no high-dose vitamin E or omega supplements, and no alcohol from three days before. Do not cut your hair yourself: we set the right length for extraction and planning on the day, including for the unshaven variant. Sleep well in the final week and drink enough water.

The evening before and the day itself

Wash your hair thoroughly in the morning with your usual shampoo, without gel, spray or powder. Have a normal breakfast, but go easy on coffee. Wear a shirt or jacket with buttons or a zip, so nothing has to be pulled over your head when changing. Plan the trip home without driving yourself, and keep the rest of the day free.

What to expect mentally

The procedure runs under local anaesthesia, takes several hours depending on the graft count, and is well tolerated: at Hair Rooms you are the only patient on your treatment day. Everything that matters afterwards is covered in the aftercare guide. Open questions about your personal preparation are settled at the free hair analysis and in the consent consultation, individually for your health profile.
